Imphal, November 11 2011:
With the stated objective of defeating the Congress in the forthcoming Manipur Legislative Assembly election, BJP has started consultation with leaders of different Opposition parties to forge a political alliance.
The consultation process was initiated after senior BJP MP and former Union Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha made a proposal to Opposition parties of the State to set up a united front during his visit to Imphal a couple of days back.
After Yashwant Sinha left Imphal, BJP spokesperson Prakash Javedakar and BJP State unit president held a marathon meeting with leaders of different Opposition parties in the BJP office from 4 pm to 8 pm of November 9 .
The meeting was attended by representatives of NCP, Trinamool Congress, MPP, JD (U) and NPP but CPI and CPI (M) were not present.
Notably, Left parties have already made it clear that they have no intention of striking a pact with the BJP.
During the meeting, the BJP leaders called upon the Opposition parties to leave aside ideological differences, and come together to form a grand alliance which can defeat the Congress party.
Leaders of different political parties who attended the meeting expressed their willingness to form the proposed alliance.
They even discussed probable names of the proposed alliance.
The process of forging alliance would be discussed further on November 17 and 18 when Prakash Javadekar would be visiting Imphal again.
