Imphal, November 05 2010:
It was a major set back alright, but the spirit of Sharmila continues to live on.
The State Govt refused to issue permission to an NGO to visit Irom Sharmila Chanu at the security ward of Jawaharlal Nehru hospital today.
The programme is part of the on going five-day long 'Festival of Hope, Justice and Peace' organized by Just Peace Foundation (JPF) to mark Sharmila's ten years completion of her crusade against the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act.
Since Sharmila is technically under judicial custody for attempt to commit suicide (309) IPC, due permission is needed to meet her.
Expectedly the decision of the Government drew sharp crticims from Just Peace Foundation and other human rights defenders.
