Imphal, November 04 2008:
Strongly opposing the ADC Delimitation draft report, 2008, chairman of Maiba village LD Rowland and village secretary DL Meduo in a joint statement has said that adjustment of Maiba village which is under 47-Karong AC and having about 1600 voters with Saranamai village under 48-Mao A/C and having 2900 voters is against the wishes and aspirations of the villagers.
Pointing out that in any democratic set up, close ties and acquaintance and familiarity of the candidates with the voters is desirable, the joint statement asserted that the present arrangement of adjusting with Saranamai village has denied the voters of Maiba village the opportunity of electoral franchise politically and geographically.
Moreover, the communication line between the two villages is arduous as there are no vehicular linkage apart from demarcation of the two villages by Barak river and its tributaries in between, the joint statement said.
The joint statement further contended that Maiba village has been politically fragmented into different political and civil administrative units, thereby resulting in drawbacks on any developmental programmes of the village.
While informing that two representatives have already been submitted to the Chairman of ADC Delimitation Commission, 2008 highlighting the grievances of the people, the joint statement urged the Government of Manipur and its authorities concerned not to bifurcate Maiba village from 47-Karong A/C and to uphold the guiding principles of the Government Gazette judiciously.
