Imphal, September 03 2009:
On behalf of all the Opposition parties in the State, a team of State unit BJP is set to leave Imphal for New Delhi on September 6 to present a detailed report of the 23/7 Khwairamband Bazar incident to the Union Home Minister and exert pressure for resignation of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh on moral ground so as to invoke President Rule in the State.
A Parliamentary team of BJP, which had already visited Imphal to take first a hand account of the ongoing public agitation, had assured that the matter would be brought to the notice of the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister.
While the Parliamentary team was at Imphal, it had assured the Opposition parties in the State of finalising appointments with the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister.
Accordingly, the Parliamentary team has reportedly communicated to the State BJP unit of the appointment with the Union Home Minister at 3 pm of September 7.It is said that the appointment with the Prime Minister is also likely to be granted soon.
Following the communication of the Parliamentary team, a joint meeting of the Opposition parties was held at MPP office yesterday.
In view of the scheduled visit of CPI (M) MP Ramchandra Drome to Imphal on September 4, to assess the present situation, the meeting decided to send a team of the State BJP unit to meet the Union Home Minister while the leaders of other Opposition parties stay back.
The State unit BJP team to be led by its president Dr Haobam Borbabu would include former Chief Ministers RK Dorendra, Wahengbam Nipamacha, former MLAs M Bhorot and L Ibomcha.
In the meeting with the Union Home Minister, the State Unit BJP team would be led by the Parliamentary team which had come to Imphal earlier.
It is said that the joint team would exert pressure on the Union Home Minister to make Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh resign for reading out a misleading statement on the 23/7 incident on the floor of the Assembly and imposition of President's Rule in Manipur, as the State administration has failed on the law and order
front.
Meanwhile, as part of its ongoing agitation, demanding resignation of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh on moral ground over the 23/7 incident , State Unit BJP today staged a Wakat Meepham at Wangoi community hall in Imphal West district.
On September 5 and 7, the party is planning to organise similar protest demonstrations in Thoubal and Imphal East district.
It had already staged Wakat Meephams at Moirang Jeep Parking and Yumnam Leikai Lairembi ground.
