President of the International Manipur Mothers' Association, Khumanleima has started silent protest with a single meal demanding removal of the Armed Forces (Special) Power Act, 1958 from Manipur and other north east states.
Khumanleima will continue her stir of remaining mute for all time and sacrificing one of the two meals in a day until the AFSPA Act is removed from the state and other north east states, said secretary of the IMMA, Kananbala today announcing the commencement of the stir of its president today at a press conference held at Manipur Press Club.
Khumanleima by shutting her mouth with a black cloth to mark her protest also attended the press briefing.
Further speaking to reporters, Kananbala recalled that the association under the leadership of Khumanleima has started its silent protest demanding removal of the draconian law from Rajghat of New Delhi on March 15 last.
The protest rally was foiled by the police there.
However, the silent protest continued shifting the venue at Janter-Manter but the place where the protest held was dismantled by the Delhi police again.
Members of IMMA submitted memoranda to the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohon Singh and home minister, P Chidambaram before shifting the protest site in Imphal on March 25 .
The silent protest started on this day is still continuing, she said.
She also appealed the womenfolk of the state to extend support and take part in the silent protest which would go on until AFSPA is totally eliminate from the soil of the state and the north east.
