Imphal, March 30 2009:
In a scathing attack on the MPP, National Executive member of CPI Ph Parijat has described MPP as a 'tiger paper' that comes out to roar only during election time but would never succeed.
Talking to a group of mediapersons, Parijat said that despite being in the Opposition for quite a long time, MPP as a regional political party MPP has always failed to live up to its role of an Opposition.
''It is not surprising for the people when MPP, which has never been able to take up any important public issues successfully and win the confidence of the people, takes the form of a paper tiger and starts roaring during election time.
The existence of the party is not felt by the people in their hearts and a few party MLA shouting at the Assembly would not do'', Parijat said.
Setting the record straight on the charges of O Joy of MPP that the Congress and the CPI should be responsible for the alleged misgovernance in the State, Parijat said that even if the Congress and the CPI are coalition partners of the SPF Government like the two faces of the same coin, in the Lok Sabha election, at the National level the two parties would be giving each other the toughest fight in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
And the fact that CPI would also be fighting against the BJP should also not be forgotten, he added.
The person who is being fielded as the candidate of the MPP by way of replacement is someone who is not like the people and he is not going to succeed in the election, Parijat said, adding that it would be a misfortune for the people of Manipur to elect as a person as their MP who would not have any significance in Delhi.
Launching the attack on Congress as well, Parijat said that Dr Meinya, who is being fielded as the candidate of the Congress party from the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency is a person whose ability and efficiency had already been tested by the people for five-long years.
It is upto the people to find out and understand what he actually accomplished during his tenure as the elected MP, Parijat said.
As for the BJP, he went on to say, it is of no use to talk about as its candidate has no chance of winning the election.
Public should try their luck with CPI Dr M Nara atleast once and the guarantee is that it would not be a disappointment, Parijat added.
