Imphal, October 29 2009:
Separation of Manipur from the Indian Union and making it a sovereign country would not be plausible, asserted ex-MP of Assam and Finance Secretary of All India Kishan Sabha, Nurul Hooda.
Addressing a press meet at the office of CPI(M), Manipur State Committee at Paona Bazar today, Nurul Hooda called upon the militants of the State to hold talks with the Government of India in order to bring an end to militancy and make the State peaceful and progressive.
The goal to separate Manipur from the Indian Union and make it an independent Nation can never be realised, he asserted.
Going on the offensive against the Ibobi-led Government, Nurul Hooda said that the State Government has failed miserably on the law and order front.
He observed that the killing of a pregnant woman and a former UG cadre who had returned to the mainstream at BT Road on July 23 was highly condemnable.
Noting that the July 23 killing was a case of State police committing excesses, the ex-MP remarked that Chief Minister O Ibobi should be ashamed of giving a false statement about the killing in the State Assembly.
The Chief Minister was misleading the entire population of Manipur, he claimed.
All those people who have been imprisoned under the provisions of the National Security Act (NSA), for crying for justice in the aftermath of the twin killing should be released, he demanded.
Rather than putting civilians behind bar, the Government should be working to give due punishment to the cops involved in the July 23 killing.
Expressing serious concern over the class boycott movement, launched as a part of the protest movement against the twin killings, Nurul Hooda observed that students have been left in an uncertain situation following prolonged closure of educational institutions.
As education has been deprived to the students, the future of Manipur is highly unpredictable.
Considering all these, it is crucial for both the Government and the agitating people to work out a solution.
The ex-MP further asserted that the Ibobi-led Government should act with a clear understanding of the people's impulse and aspirations.
