A meeting of the United Command (Combined Headquarters) held today with the Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh in the chair and attended by representatives of the Army, Assam Rifles, CRPF, BSF, Police and Intelligence has taken serious note of recent spate of abductions of Government officials on ransom demand by various armed UG groups in the State.
To discuss the involvement of the UG groups which are party to the Suspension of Operation (SoO) in such abductions, a meeting of the Joint Monitoring Group has been convened tomorrow.
Disclosing this to The Sangai Express, a reliable source said that the meeting attended also by Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary (Home), DGP, Additional DGP (Intelligence) and top officials of the Army, Assam Rifles, CRPF, BSF and Intelligence agencies reviewed the law and order situation in the State taking serious note of the recent abductions of Government officials for ransom by armed UG
groups.
The meeting of the Unified Command headed by the Chief Minister as Chairman seriously deliberated on the incidents of abducting two engineers of RIMS, three officials of Khadi and Village Industries Board, secretary of Adimjati Ashram as well as the violence at Kwakta.
Besides giving nod to the State Police Commandos for conducting combined operation with the Army, Assam Rifles and CRPF, the meeting also discussed on the security scenario along the National Highways.
On the other hand, taking serious note of the involvement of some SoO signatory-armed UG groups in abduction of Government officials, a meeting of the Joint Monitoring Group, constituted to ensure implementation of the ground rules of SoO, has been convened at 9.30 am tomorrow.
The meeting of the Joint Monitoring Group would be held separately with UPF and KNO/KLA.
The Director North East in-charge of the Ministry of Home Affairs Jha is also likely to visit Imphal to take stock of the law and order situation in the State, according to the source.
