Calling upon the media community for support and co-operation in popularisation of Science among masses, a four-day training workshop on Science writing/Journalism for Ukhrul district has begun from today at Tangkhul Theological Association (TTA) hall, Hamleikhong here.
Science and Technology Commissioner A Ibocha Singh, Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC) Executive Director Th Surendranath and National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) Director Dr Manoj Patairiya were present in the inaugural function of the workshop as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
The workshop is the third of its kind at the district level being organised by MASTEC under the sponsorship of NCSTC, with the main objective of popularisation of Science among the masses.
Speaking at the occasion, Ibocha stressed on the need to enhance scientific knowledge among the people and said that the media can play an important role in this regard.
Dr Manoj Patairiya highlighted the various activities of the council aimed at creating Scientific temperament among the people for enhanced understanding of the problems concerning the welfare of the society and well-being of the people.
In his presidential remarks, Th Surendranath Singh pointed out that though Scientific discoveries and findings may keep changing and there is always some contradiction surrounding over such findings, human endeavour to unravel the mystery of Science should not be stopped.
In all, 45 budding Science writers, teachers and journalists from different parts of the district are participating in the workshop.
Science Editor from Jaipur, Tarun K Jain, Senior Journalist from Jaipur, LL Sharma, ISTV Editor Rupachandra Yumnam, H Debendro Singh of AIR Imphal, The Sangai Express sub-editor Satyajit Usham and Manipur Science Communicators' Association secretary L Somorjit were the resource persons of the workshop.
