Imphal, November 12 2009:
The complex of the Veterinary Hospital at Tadubi in Senapati district has been shrunken day by day with private individuals encroaching upon the land, thanks to the prolonged negligence of the Government even to put up a proper fencing around the complex.
Construction of private houses by encroaching upon the land of the hospital came to light during an inspection tour organised by Mao Students' Union recently.
Talking to the accompanying media team, one of the doctors posted in the said hospital, informed that some private individuals have encroached upon the land and constructed houses by taking advantage of caving in of land in parts of the hospital complex.
So far two private houses have come up on the land of the hospital and further activities are on.
The doctor contended that the existing pathetic condition of the hospital and its complex is one of the main reasons responsible for the encroachment.
The hospital is now almost non-functional and its building made of wood is in very bad shape due to prolonged negligence of the Government.
There are also no equipments in the hospital.
Moreover, the residential quarters of the staff are in shamble now.
So with now palpable sign of a hospital in existence, the locals have find it easier to encroach upon the land of the hospital complex, the doctor said, while drawing the immediate attention of the Government to the matter.
On the other hand, the Primary Health Centre at Tadubi, which is considered to be one of the oldest health centre in the State, is being operated without any regular staff nurse.
A regular doctor, a microscopist and a sweeper have been running the health centre.
Among the non-regular staff, there are one AYUSH doctor, one Block Assistant Manager and one Lab Technician (Malaria & TB), who have been posted under the National Rural Health Mission.
According to the lone doctor of the health centre Dr N Dehe Mao, the Government needs to pay serious attention to the existing infrastructural requirements of the health centre which is the only health centre for people of more than 30 villages situated in and around Tadubi.
Such attentions would atleast help the people in reposing their faith on the Government.
Atleast two doctors are required in the health centre, Dr Dehe Mao disclosed, adding that after all the staff nurses have been transferred to other more convenient places, there is only one staff nurse who is also on utilisation.
There is no clerk in the health centre and the sweeper is also doing the clerical work, he added.
The building of the health centre, which is catering to the medical need of around 38000 people in over 30 villages, was found to be not in tune with the changing time.
As the condition of the staff quarters has also deteriorated so much that the employees were found putting up in rented rooms.
Many of the patients who came for treatment expressed their desire on the part of the Government to pay immediate attention on the needs of the health centre.
During the course of the inspection tour, it also came to light that the primary health sub-centre at Makhan Centre, the construction of which was been completed in 2003 has not yet been made functional.
The condition of the building is now such that it would be requiring immediate repairing before its could be made operational.
