With a eye on recovering the loss of the drought affected farmers, a two-day long non-residential training programme for farmers on Rabi crops organised by the Nongchup Imphal Loumee Shinmee Chaokhat Thourang Lup has begun from today at Ngairangbam UJB School.
Deputy Commissioner of Imphal West Kangjam Radhakumar Singh and Dean of Central Agricultural University, Iroisemba Dr N Iboton Singh were respectively chief guest and president of the inaugural function of the training programme.
Deputy Director of Agriculture Department, Government of Manipur Ph Rajen; Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer of Imphal West-I N Rabei Singh and president of Nongchup Imphal Loumee Shinmee Chaokhat Thourang Lup, Imphal West RS Khuraijam were also present at the occasion as guests of honour.
The training programme is being co-sponsored by the Department of Agriculture, Government of Manipur and Central Agricultural University,
Iroisemba.
Delivering the key note address, secretary of Nongchup Imphal Loumee Shinmee Chaokhat Thourang Lup, Imphal West Thoiba Konthoujam pointed out that farmers in the State have been exposed to numerous difficulties following failure of cultivation as a consequence of rainfall shortage this year.
So the training programme has been initiated with an eye on recovering the loss of the farmers atleast to some extent from Rabi cropping.
In his address as the chief guest, Kangjam Radhakumar observed that imparting training to the farmers from time to time is very much essential.
Majority of the farmers in the State are still practising traditional method of cultivation.
So in order to increase the production of food crops, agricultural experts should share their knowledge with the farmers.
