Alleging that the EVM at 41/51 Paldai polling station was forcibly carried away by an officer of Thoubal Police, 40 minutes before the scheduled closing time yesterday, agent of the INC candidate in the said AC has demanded that counting of votes for the same station should not be done unless repoll is conducted.
Speaking to the media, Yangkhopao Haokip, election agent of INC candidate of Chandel AC, Thangkholun Haokip said that around 200 voters of the polling station could not cast their votes due to the 'uncalled-for' act of the police officer.
Yangkhopao alleged that the police officer put the EVM into his Gypsy without following any formality of sealing the EVM.
He took along the Presiding Officer with him.
He said the police officer opened some rounds of gunfire when the people chased the police vehicles in order to get back the EVM.
However, there was no report of casualty due to the firing.
Charging that the peaceful voting was breached, Yangkhopao also drawn the attention of the CEO and ECI to order repoll at the polling station.
