A rifleman of the 1st Assam Rifles stationed at Chassad of Ukhrul district was killed when another jawan opened fire at around 7.15 pm of October 29, said a delayed report.
The incident is said to have taken place within the AR unit's premises.
identity of the deceased personnel who sustained bullet wounds on chest and arm areas among other bodily parts, has been established as Shaji KK (No 0110437).The body has been handed over to AR authorities after the post mortem procedures at RIMS morgue today.
Couple beaten-up: Unidentified miscreants bashed up a husband-wife duo from Hatta Golapati at near Malom of Bishnupur district in the early hours of today.
The incident took place when the couple named as Md Mafijuddin (41) and Manijan (38) were returning home in a 407 Tata after purchasing cattles from Kwakta.
The miscreants numbering about 7-8 waylaid the vehicle by blocking their route at Nambol area with a jeep and began to rain blows at the couple apart from damaging the front wind-shield.
Condition of Mafijuddin is stated to be serious.
Body claimed, another disposed: Body of Pukrambam Suranjoy alias Sanjoy who was gunned down by personnel of 4 Assam Rifles at Laipham Khunou area on october 27 has been claimed by family members from RIMS morgue today.
Decision to claim custody of the body was taken after representatives of the JAC formed in the backdrop of the controversial killing reached an agreement with the State authorities.
Despite the Assam Rifles authorities claiming that the slain youth was a UG activist, the agreement between the Govt and JAc include payment of ex-gratia to families of the deceased Suranjoy and institution of an enquiry by no less than an officer of Superintendent of Police rank.
In another development, body of the suspected UG cadre gunned down by personnel of 34 AR at Thamlai of Thoubal district on october 25 morning has been handed over to Imphal Municipal Council authority for disposal today as no one came forth to claim it.
Meanwhile, the youth (UG) slain by troopers of 21 Assam Rifles at Kakching Khunou yesterday morning has been identified as Laiphrakpam Boy alias Khingba (30) s/o Gunamani of Moirang Kampu Makha Leikai.
The aR authorities had claimed that Boy was an RPF/PLA activist.
Post mortem on the body was conducted at RIMS morgue today and same handed over to family members.
