DAA status extended for 1 year

The State Government has extended disturbed area status all over the State excepting the Imphal Municipal Area from where Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act has been already repealed.
A Cabinet meeting held this evening with Chief Minister Okram Ibobi adopted a resolution towards this end.
The Cabinet meeting reviewed the disturbed area status tagged to the State since many decades back.
After studying the reports submitted by Police, Assam Rifles and Army, the State Cabinet decided to prolong the disturbed area status by another year, said SPF spokesperson N Biren.
The Cabinet meeting, in line with the commitment given by the State Government, agreed to make Lungtin an SDC circle.
The Cabinet meeting also deliberated on the progress achieved by the Committee on Re-organisation of Administrative and District Police Boundary.
So far, 34 different organisations have put forward their opinions and suggestions before the committee on creation of Sadar Hills district and re-organisation of district boundaries.
The committee has held ten rounds of public hearing.
The Cabinet further decided to hand over the existing plot of RDS High School to MAHUD Department to build a shopping mall there, said Biren.
Moreover, the plot of Ananda Ashram located near RDS High School would be acquired by the Government at a negotiated rate for developing Urban Resource Centre ( Imphal East) .
The Cabinet meeting also agreed on building a State Guest House not lesser than a five star hotel in grade to house visiting VVIPs like President, Prime Minister etc in the area presently occupied by Guwahati High Court, Imphal Bench.
Once the State Assembly is shifted to the new building at Chingmeirong, the offices of Imphal Municipal Council, MUDA, MAHUD and Town Planning would be shifted to the present State Assembly complex.
Indira Park would also be expanded by acquiring the site eastern portion of the Assembly complex up to the Speaker's bungalow.
The Cabinet meeting further agreed to regularise 272 teaching and non-teaching staff in addition to recruiting to 29 new lecturers, seven Principals and five clerical staff.
Further the State Cabinet decided to lift the appointment ban in order to recruit 22 different posts in Election Department.
