Govt studies phumdi clearance work

Chief Minister O Ibobi today presided a meeting and studied about expediting the phumdi clearance work being done by K Pro Pvt Ltd in Loktak Lake.
The meeting also discussed about limiting the project's period to March next year.
The meeting deliberated on expediting the phumdi clearance work and complete the same project by March next year.
The project is being executed with monetary assistance of Rs 224 crores from the Planning Commission.
Forest Minister Th Debendra, Chief Secretary DS Poonia, officials of LDA and K Pro Pvt Ltd were present in the meeting held at the Chief Minister's office this afternoon.
During the meeting, the State Government officials told K Pro Pvt Ltd representatives that they are against any further extension of the project's completion period.

Meanwhile, an official source informed that 62 per cent of the phumdis have been cleared mechanically till October 15 last.
Satellite images of the Loktak Lake show that around 15 Sq Kms of the lake's surface are clear water, not covered by any phumdis.
The same observation was mentioned in the monitoring report given by Karuniya University, Coimbatore.
Notably, K Pro started executing the project since 2009 as a short-term action plan.
