Following renewed spates of attack by armed cadres of Dimasa outfit DHD (J) on Zeliangrong community in North Cachar Hills District of Assam in the last few days, on an average of around 100 displaced Zeliangrong people are daily arriving at Tousem to take shelter.
In connection with this violent incidents and the subsequent displacement of many Zeliangrong villagers, the Deputy Commissioner of Tamenglong District has submitted an official report to the Government.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Tamenglong district Jacinta Lazarus, she has submitted a detailed report on the displaced villagers who have fled to Tousem to the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) DS Poonia today.
Since the outbreak of renewed violence in the North Cachar Hills district, over the last 3 to 4 days around 500 displaced Zeliangrong villagers have arrived and taken shelter at Tousem, the Deputy Commissioner said, adding that some days earlier 70 houses belonging to Zeliangrong community were set on fire while five persons have been killed in the violent-torn district of Assam.
While informing that she had established communication with her counterpart of the North Cachar Hills district in connection with taking up necessary measures to quell the violence, Lazarus said proposal has also been placed for discussing the issue at the level of the two neighbouring States.
Meanwhile, an emergency meeting convened here this evening with Chief Secretary in the chair to discuss the relief measures of the displaced villagers has decided to despatch 100 quintal of rice tomorrow.
It is said fear psychosis has gripped the mind of these displaced villagers.
