Imphal, October 19 2009:
Infuriated over the repeated failure of releasing their pending salary, a large number of teachers today ransacked the office rooms of ZEO Zone-II as well as that of the Account Section and made a bonfire of the furniture.
Expecting that the pending salary for the month of July, August and September would be released just in time for the Ningol Chakkouba festival, a large number of teachers had turned up at the office of the ZEO yesterday despite being Sunday.
However, the salary was not disbursed.
Today also, the aggrieved teachers turned up to collect their salary.
However, as the ZEO was found to have taken leave and DDO and other related staff were found absent, infuriated teachers broke the window panes and ransacked the office rooms of the ZEO as well as that of the Account Section.
Afterward, all the furniture were taken out in the office compound and made a bonfire of them.
Alleging negligence on the part of the ZEO and other related staff of the Account Section for the failure of releasing the pending salary in time for the Ningol Chakkouba, the agitated teachers have also raised the demand for transferring of the inefficient ZEO and other staff in the Account Section.
Harekrishna, education director and L.Jayenta who is the state education minister rushed to the spot and discussed the matter.
