Imphal, September 27 2010:
An awareness meeting on Zero Garbage Campaign for Wangkhei Assembly Constituency ward no.23 was organised by Khurai Polo Club at its campus today.
Minister of Commerce and Industries Yumkham Erabot attended the meeting as chief guest.
Speaking at the meeting, Minister Erabot exhorted that the campaign should be made successful at any cost and said that keeping Imphal city neat and clean is also essential from the view point of health of the people.
He appealed to the people for support in the campaign being launched by the Government of Manipur.
The Minister also announced that under JNNURM, a large four-phased project would also be implemented with the main objective of developing Imphal city.
Under this project, construction of proper houses for families under below poverty line, expansion of road and bridges and construction of proper drainage system would be taken up.
Former Director of School Education Thangjam Shamungou presided over the meeting which was also attended by Councillor of Ward no.23 Memcha Devi as guest of honour.
Special Administrator of IMC N Gitkumar, secretary of Workers' Union Joy Khuman were also present at the occasion during which Junior Scientist of Environment and Ecology Wing Dr T Brajakumar spoke as resource persons.
