ADC polls held amid UNC objection

Imphal, October 24 2011:
Amidst the strong objections raised by the United Naga Council (UNC), polling for left out MDC constituencies of Chingai in Ukhrul district and Phaibung Khullen in Senapati district were held today without any unwanted incident.
Counting of votes would be done at Imphal DC office complex on October 31 .
Though Chingai MDC constituency has 10 polling stations, not a single voter came out in six polling stations.
The voter turn out was however quite healthy in four polling stations.
Voter turn out at these four polling stations was pegged at 80 per cent.
The polling stations where voters came out in large numbers were Chalou, Chingai, Poi (A) and Poi (B) .
In Huishu, Quinga, Namrei, Rajai Khullen, Rajai Khunou and Maremphung polling stations, not a single however voter turned out to cast their vote.
It is reported that 1772 people cast their votes in Chingai MDC constituency out of the total 3694 voters.
Altogether 25 sections of CRPF were used for the polls in Chingai.
Notably, Congress candidate Wilson and independent candidate Ningthem are slugging it out for the Chingai MDC seat.
Phaibung MDC constituency recorded 64.62 per cent voter turn out.
Out of a total 4475 voters, 2892 voters cast their votes in five polling stations.
While polling station number 17/2 recorded maximum voter turn out at 798, only 33 votes were polled in polling station number 17/5 .
It is reported that polling personnel have reached Senapati district headquarters.
In view of the strong objections raised by some groups, counting of votes would be done at Imphal on October 31 at the recommendations of the respective District Election Officers.
At the moment the ADC members who were elected from the Naga dominated hill districts are currently functioning from Imphal.
