Topper in the MBBS/BDS entrance exam 2009, Salma Begum has expressed her desire for Muslim girls to pursue education properly.
Significantly, Salma Begum is the first Muslim girl in the State to secure first rank in MBBS/BDS entrance exams.
Salma Begum is the eldest of five siblings born to Md Abdur Rahman and Bibi Hajira of Lilong Uku Maning.
Abdur Rahman is a Government pharmacists while Bibi Hajira is a housewife.

Salma Begum, who has become a figure of inspiration to many Muslim girls said "Muslim girls of the State are very backward in terms of education/literacy.
Though the girls wish to study, many have to abandon their wishes for lack of support.
"Such lack of family support has been one primary factor denying proper and higher education to a large number of Muslim girls", Salma observed while advocating a collective effort to enable Muslim girls compete with other communities in the field of education.
Salma Begum scored 368 marks out of 400 in the MBBS/BDS exam 2009 to secure the top position.
She did her schooling at Crescent English High School, Lilong right from Nursery to Class X.Securing 71.6 percent in the HSLC exam conducted by BSEM, Salma completed her secondary schooling at Brajalal Institute of Sciences.
She secured 77.8 percent in the class XII exam conducted by COHSEM.
Specifically for the MBBS/BDS entrance exam, Salma joined coaching institutions like MECI, SACI and others.
For her outstanding achievement, Salma gave full credit to her parents and teachers of MECI.
Rejoicing over the historic achievement of her daughter, Bibi Hajira said that it was like the life's dream coming true.
She further pledged that she would give all possible support to make her daughter a benevolent and caring doctor.
