Imphal, October 16:
The Union Government is likely to announce its explicit stand on the recommendations of the Justice Jeevan Reddy Review Committee soon.
This was disclosed by Union Minister Oscar Fernandes while talking with Irom Sharmila at New Delhi yesterday at around 5 pm.
A reliable source informed that the Centre had tentatively decided to discuss the issue in the next session of Parliament but the intense and high profile agitation launched by different civil organisations and human rights groups in the National capital after Sharmila resumed her six year long agitation at Jantar Mantar, the Union Government has been constrained to table the review report of the infamous Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act 1958 for deliberation in its Cabinet sitting and take a final decision.
Taking note of the demands of Irom Sharmila, Oscar Fernandes assured the hunger striker that the Union Government would table the Review Committee's report and announce its decision before the next Parliament session, disclosed Babloo Loitongbam.
Fernandes also obtained a full text copy of the review report from the Manipur Students' Association Delhi (MSAD), he added.
Former Speaker Dr S Dhananjoy and Prof N Sanajaoba of Guwahati University visited Sharmila today.
Even as Delhi Police have registered an FIR against Sharmila, she has not been produced before a Magistrate till date, Babloo mentioned.
A consultative seminar of AFSPA review report would be held tomorrow at Delhi Press Club under the aegis of several human right groups including Human Rights Law Network and Human Rights Alert, Babloo added.
