Imphal, March 06:
Reacting to the Governor's inaugural address of the ongoing Assembly session in which it was stated that Rs 20 crores have been set aside for modernisation and empowerment of police/security forces, Irom Chanu Sharmila has denounced the initiative.
She remarked that the move is frightening.
The hunger striker who has been on fast unto death stir since eight years back demanding withdrawal of the draconian Armed Forces (Special Power) Act reiterated that she would continue with her campaign against the military Act.
Speaking to reporters at JN Hospital security ward today, Sharmila while noting that releasing and arresting her at periodic intervals has belittled her struggle against AFSPA, asked the State Government to kill her if the draconian AFSPA should not be repealed at any cost.
She maintained that she would never give up her fight against the inhuman act even as the Government continues to arrest and release her at regular intervals.
At a time when the writs of security forces are running large in the society, it is really frightening to guess the situation of the State which is most likely to be aggravated when the security forces are empowered/modernised with Rs 20 crores already set aside for it in the 2008-09 budget, Sharmila observed.
She also cautioned the people against such move of the Government.
A poetry manuscript titled Thawaigi Khetnaba penned by the hunger striker was also entrusted to the media persons for publication.
Sharmila launched her struggle against AFSPA after 10 civilians were mowed down by troops of 8 Assam Rifles on November 2 at Malom Lamkhai.
