Imphal, Jun 01:
With the objective of developing and promoting Meitei Mayek and Manipuri language, MEELAL is all set to serve an ultimatum to the authorities and people concerned not to put up sign boards, banners, posters etc without Meitei Mayek.
"We will serve the ultimatum on the persons or authorities responsible to insert Meitei Mayek on the posters and sign boards, failing which we will take fitting action," said Khangembam Basantakumar Meitei, secretary general of MEELAL while talking to The Sangai Express.
"We have come across a number of sign boards and posters without Meitei Mayek on the streets of Imphal and elsewhere.
The non-insertion of Meitei Mayek on these posters and banners is against the aspirations of the people," said Basantakumar and added that the campaign will be extended to the other districts as well.
As announced during the oath taking ceremony of the new office bearers of MEELAL at the Royal Palace on May 25, MEELAL volunteers will begin inspecting all the schools to ascertain whether Meitei Mayek is being taught from Class I and II.
The inspection will start this month.
Any institution found not introducing Meitei Mayek would be identified and relevant reports would be submitted to the State Government to take up fitting action, added Basantakumar.
The secretary general of MEELAL also appealed to all not to disrupt the process taken up to teach Meitei Mayek in the hill areas and reasoned that the script is for all section of society.
A total of Rs 44,000 has been earmarked for the period 2005-2006 to meet the TA and DA expenses of MEELAL's volunteers while they go about teaching the Meitei Mayek, informed the secretary general.
Basantakumar however expressed strong dissatisfaction over the 10 percent demand imposed on the fund earmarked for the MEELAL volunteers to dispense their duties by an underground organisation.
