Irate mob destroys vegetable farm at Zouzangtek

Imphal, August 25 2012:
An irate mob of around 80 people led by one Paozalung Golmei, Chief of Nungsai Village destroyed a vegetable farm at Zouzangtek village under Tamenglong district on August 21 .
Informing this to media, Henkhapao Haokip, Chief of Zouzangtek village, said that the two and a half pari of land where sugar canes, cabbages and beans are being grown has been under the custody of Zouanagtek village since time immemorial.
All the documents of the land area are still in their custody.
But in the morning of August 21, a team of around 80 people led by Paozalung Golmei, Chief of Nungsai Village came and destroyed all the crops in the farm.
They also damaged the fencing around the farm and caused destruction to two farm houses.
He further alleged that the mob also abducted three people including a father and a son working in the farm.
They are Henpong (50), s/o late Paono; Nonitlan Haokip (18) and his father Chongnet (55), all from Zouzangtek village.
Though the father and the son were released on the same day at around 4 pm, Henpong was released at around 11 pm.
The abductors demanded one pig and Rs 5000 for the release.
The village authority of Zaozangtek has demanded a compensation of Rs 14, 60,000 from the Village Chief of Nungsai village by August 28 and warned of severe consequences in case of failure to meet the demand.
