Imphal, January 28 2009:
The Manipur People's Liberation Front (MPLF) has hailed the people of Manipur for "successful boycott" of the Republic Day.
According to a press release issued by the MPLF convenor, the 'successful boycott' of the Republic Day celebrations was a clear testimony to the fact that the people are against the alien rule and that such National functions like the Republic Day has no meaning to the people of Manipur.
Referring to the suspension of Government school Principals for not attending Republic Day parade, the MPLF alleged that it was only a manifestation of the Government's attitude to victimise weaker sections while unable to face those who really matter.
It asserted that the society, particularly student community should stand by the suspended teachers.
Observing that democracy has been reduced to a mockery in India, which prides in itself as the largest democracy in the world, the MPLF alleged that under the cloak of democracy, already reduced to mockery, a virtual military rule is enforced in Manipur under which the people of Manipur are being gagged and tortured and butchered at will.
The only way to free the people of Manipur from such alleged atrocities of the alien rule is to overthrow the alien rule itself, it reiterated.
It further cautioned that fitting actions will be initiated against those who participated in the Republic Day functions against the call of MPLF in case they are found attending such functions ever again.
