School uniform burnt on NH-2

Supporters of the Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee (SHDDC) burnt 384 Shirts bought by a private school as uniform for its students at Keithelmanbi along National Highway 2 today.
The burning of the of school uniform comes a couple of days after the SHDDC decided to intensify its stir in the wake of the meeting between its leaders and the State Government over the districthood demand issue.
The shirts were brought recently from a manufacturing unit in Haryana by the authorities of DV School, Senapati district headquarters.
Along with the T-Shirts inscribed with the school's name and logo, the accountant of the school was moving in a passenger bus from Imphal towards Senapati on NH 2 when the SHDDC supporters waylaid the vehicle, pulled out the uniform and set them on fire on the road in the afternoon around 2.30, said a school staff.
The shirts were set on fire despite producing documents like challan that the T-Shirts were exclusively meant for school uniform and not for business purpose, lamented the school's headmaster.
Such an act defeat the idea of education and can wrongly impress the young students, he said.
