Titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba has called upon the people to celebrate Ningol Chakkouba in a sober tone to show solidarity to the struggle of Irom Sharmila.
Speaking as chief guest at the closing function of the Kanglei Ningol Khudol mela organised by the Apunba Kanglei Shinnaibi Lup (AKSIL), the titular king reminded that the six year long campaign of Sharmila is not in pursuit of any personal agenda or to create a name of her own but for the rights of all the Manipuri people.
As such, Ningol Chakkouba ought to be celebrated in a subdued fashion and not as usual with much pomp and luxury, noted Sanajaoba.
Observing that the State Government should provide markets for the handloom weavers of the State, he stressed on the importance of people's cooperation to revive and promote the handloom industry of the State.
According to secretary organisation of AKSIL N Ranibala, altogether goods worth Rs 19,17,940 were sold by the 56 stalls opened in the mela.
The closing function of the mela was also attended by Director of Commerce and Industries Dhiraj Yumnam, Chairman of Manipur Handloom Co-operative Society Md Wahidur Rehman and the former president of Meetei National Front as guests of honour.
