Imphal, June 23 2009:
Many students of Sainik School, Pangei have been reportedly infected by jaundice and the situation demands urgent control measures before it spreads to other students on a massive scale.
According to information received from State Health Department, there was report of students suffering from jaundice at the school.
However, the source of the infection could not established as yet.
At first only one/two student(s) were found infected by jaundice when classes resumed after vacation.
But now, the disease has spread to 14/15 students, said a Defence source.
Notably, Sainik School Pangei is under the Ministry of Defence.
Principal of the School has already written to the Education Commissioner, Director and Health authority to help find out the source and also to provide necessary assistance.
On the other hand, it has been established that inadequate immunisation was responsible for the large-scale infection by measles in Tousem sub-division.
Earlier it was believed that the disease communicated from the displaced villagers of North Cachar Hills taking shelter in the sub-division.
A team of doctors sent from Imphal to Tousem in the wake of outbreak of measles confirmed that the infection was because of inadequate immunisation.
The report furnished by the doctors to Health Services would be forwarded to Family Welfare Department.
