Lok Sabha MP from Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency Dr Thokchom Meinya demanded for immediate repeal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act., 1958 in the best interest of all concerned.
Participating in the discussion of the Motion of Thanks on the President's Address moved by Ajit Jogi and Krishna Tirath on Tuesday last in the Lok Sabha, Dr.Meinya said, " There are laws in this country which are national in character and regional in application.
One such infamous law if the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act." He demanded for repeal of the Act immediately in the interest of the people.
Dr Meinya also urged the Central Government to expedite the Jiribam-Tupul Railway Project for its timely completion.
He said ,"There are States in the country where the people have not seen trains.
The UPA government has taken up some National Projects to link these States by Rail Lines.
One such Project is the Imphal railway Line".
Swajaldhara flops, fund misuse galore in Ukhrul: Accusing the Ukhrul district DC of misusing BADB and DRDA funds, the Information Centre for Hill Areas Manipur (ICHAM) asserted that Swajaldhara schemes have virtually failed in Ukhrul district.
This was discovered during its extensive inspection tour of development works in interior areas, informed ICHAM in a press release.
Against Rs 18 lakhs sanctioned for a water supply scheme in Kachai, a water tank of just 6 ft deep, 10 ft wide and 12 ft long has been constructed.
Moreover, pipes used in the scheme is of lowest grade.
In another case of misappropriation, Rs 5 lakhs sanctioned for construction of a market shed at Maku Lamkhai under Kamjong block has been withdrawn after filling some earth.
Further, another Rs 49 lakhs sanctioned for development of the road from Kongkan to Aishi village has also been withdrawn without executing the work, alleged ICHAM.
Moreover, funds sanctioned for construction of eight bridges at eight villages under Kamjong block have also been withdrawn without completing the construction works.
Taking grim note of such swindling and misuse of development fund, ICHAM urged upon the Government to initiate befitting actions against the responsible officials.
