Imphal, April 09 2011:
Manipur Development Society (MDS), the lone construction agency in the State, has created a sort of record, but of an infamous type, by constructing the smallest community hall at Moirangpurel in Andro Assembly Constituency under Imphal East district of the State.
Not bigger than some sheltering sheds that one could find in terrace cultivation area of the hills, the community hall measuring around 15 feet in wide and 20 feet in length has been constructed inside the secluded campus of Lai Khamlangba.
The minuscule community hall stands just in front of the Shanglen of Lai Khamlangba, which faces south.
Even though no sign board with complete details on the construction work could be found anywhere around, a signboard pinned up on the southern side of the tiny community hall clearly indicated that the work agency is MDS.

When a team of media persons contacted to find out whether the community hall in question was constructed with his knowledge, local MLA Th Shyamkumar responded that he had no knowledge.
But he went on to point out that construction of such a small community hall and that too in an open space far away from inhabited area shows that those who are responsible for the construction do not understand the real value of their work.
Efforts to contact the officials of MDS for their comments on the tiny community hall constructed at Andro drew blank.
