Imphal, March 08, 2010:
Irom Chanu Sharmila, who has been fasting for more than 9 years now demanding removal of Armed forces Special Powers Act, 1958, has categorically stated that though the Government of Manipur has remained indifferent to her struggle and the demand, the support being received from various sections of the society has made her resolute all the more.
Talking to mediapersons after she was released on completion of one year of conviction at the site where Sharmila Kanba Lup has been launching a relay hunger strike in support of her cause, Sharmila said that there is no change in her stand against Armed Forces Special Powers Act and would continue with her agitation.
While expressing gratitude to all those who have supported her, she however, said that there is nothing that could be expected from the politicians of the State and the country.
She said the drama of releasing her on the alleged ground of completing one year of conviction and then re-arresting her is becoming shameful.
It may be noted here that after being arrested on alleged charge of suicide under section 309 of Indian Panel Code, Sharmila is being lodged in the security ward of JN Hospital at Porompat where she is nosefed.
On completion of one year of conviction, she is released every year by an order of the judicial magistrate.
Today also, Sharmila was released on completion of one year of conviction.
But she continued her agitation at the site near the hostel of JN Institute of Medical Sciences where Sharmila Kanba Lup has been organising an indefinite hunger relay strike in support of her cause.
