Imphal, March 05 2009:: Strongly protesting the appointment of an officer from the Electricity Circle of the PWD as its Chief Engineer, Civil Engineers of the PWD took mass casual leave today, which will be followed by another such protest tomorrow.

Adding to the angst of the agitating Engineers is the report that three Engineers including two from the Mechanical section have been promoted to the rank of SEs, said a source while speaking to The Sangai Express.

An Engineer while speaking on behalf of the Civil Engineers said that there are three posts of Additional Chief Engineers in the PWD.

Out of these posts two are from the Civil circle and one from the Electrical circle.

The PWD is by and large a Civil Engineering Department, claimed the source further.

The Electrical and Mechanical circles, numbering 2/3 are merely appendages, said the source and added that as such the post of the Chief Engineer of the PWD should be given to a Civil Engineer.

This is the norm followed in other parts of the State.

The Government also issued a back dated order which has assigned SEs- in-charge to take over as Additional-CEs of the PWD, the source.

Mention may be made here that following the decision of the Government to appoint an Engineer from the Electrical circle of the PWD as the Chief Engineer of the Department, the civil Engineers had decided to take mass casual leave.
