Two bird catchers netted

Imphal, December 29 2012:
Along with pulling up two bird catchers, a rescue team of People for Animals (PFA), Thoubal unit have rescued two live Jack Snipes and recovered one death Jack Snipe from a paddy field in Langthabal village of Khomjom in the morning yesterday.
Jack Snipe is a rare bird listed in Schedule VI of Wildlife Protection Act.
According to a statement issued by L Biswajeet Meitei, Managing Trustee of PFA, Thoubal unit, the two bird catchers identified as Md.Azad Khan 38 s/o Md.Mohamad and Md.Narul Haque 22 s/o Md Beladali Khan, both residents of Sora Awang Leikai have been subsequently handed over to the Kakching police station along with 4 bird nets, a Maruti van silver colour bearing registration no.MN-04A-8300 and the carcass of Jack Snipe recovered from their possession for necessary legal proceeding.
Although PFA Thoubal unit was told that the accused were [produced before CJM Thoubal by the concerned officials of Forest Department on the same day, there is no detail information of the verdict till late afternoon today.

Biswajeet further informed that a Kite with injury on its left wing probably from air-gun shot was handed over to PFA Thoubal for necessary care by one Pukhoihongbam Nilamani Meitei of Porompat Thawanthaba Leikai on December 19.Nilamani found it bleeding and unable to fly in his garden. Moreover, three young boys of around 10 years old, namely Sh Ranjan Singh, P Ramesh Meitei and P Tondomba Meitei, all residents of Khongjom Langathel handed over 4 Eastern Grass owl babies to PFA.
According to the boys, the chicks were abandoned by their parents for days and the parents were believed to be death or caught by hunters.
