Wife of the section officer Leitanthem Mangi today petitioned the chief engineer of the electricity department to bring kidnappers to negotiating table and ensure safe release of her husband and executive engineer, Thangjam Tomalchand.
Section Officer Leitanthem Mangi of Kongpal Chanam Leikai was kidnapped by cadres of United People Party of Kangleipak (UPPK) on monetary demand of Rs 15 crore from the department along with executive engineer, Th Tomalchand of Khurai Thangjam Leikai.
Gambhini, wife of EE Tomalchand told reporters said that her husband failed to come back after he went to his posting place at Tamei in Tamenglong district in the morning of November 6.On the next day family communicated with him over phone.
Since then his mobile phone remained switch off.
Later, in the morning of November 10, one of his office colleagues informed the family that he has been taken into captivity of the UPPK and the outfit over phone threatened that if failed to meet their demand, he will be at risk, Gambhini added.
On the other hand, sit-in protests were staged in front of the electricity department, Keishampat where womenfolk of Kongpal Chanam Leikai also took part and at Lainingthou Awangba at Khurai Thangjam Leikai.
The protest staged at Lainingthou Awangba was organized by the Khurai Genial Club in association with the meira paibis of the localities.
They appealed the underground groups to release EE Tomalchand and SO, Mangi.
Slogans like, "Lets stop kidnapping people for ransom, no to kidnapping culture, stop habit of taking ransom, don't individualized demand to department to some individual, now time has come to know the feeling of people," were written in the placards displayed at the protest sites.
