23rd Manipuri Language Day

Marking the inclusion of Manipuri language in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution, Cultural Forum Manipur; Naharol Sahitya Premee Samiti; Manipuri Literary Society; Manipuri Lingual Development Committee; Leimarol Khorjeikhol (LEIKOL) and Manipur State Shumang Leela Council jointly observed the 23rd Manipuri Language Day 2014 at Dave Literature Centre, DM College campus here today.
The observance function was attended by L Iboton Singh; Prof P Nabachandra; Dr Sagolsem Lanchenba Meitei; Leihaothabam Saratchandra; Dr Kh Sarojini Devi and Prof Ph Gunachandra Sharma as Presidium Members.
Delivering key note address, L Saratchandra stated that the Manipuri language was included in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution after the Parliament deliberated on it in the year 1992 and observed that more has to be done to develop the language further.
He said that the Nepali language was also included in the 8th Schedule on the same day but it has developed in many ways as compared to Manipuri language.
Manipuri Sahitya Parishad also observed the 23rd Manipuri Language Day at its office at Sangaipat with Elangbam Chand, MLA of Yaiskul A/C and Prof Elangbam Dinamani, president of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad attending as Chief Guest and President respectively.
The 23rd Manipuri Language Day was also observed by All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) at its office.
