Imphal, November 04 2008:
THE LONE un-to-death stir of Irom Chanu Sharmila has completed eight years.
On completion of the eight years, the Human Rights Initiative has put down various questions like most importantly, "Will India allow Sharmila to rekindle the fading hallow of Gandhi's non-violence providing space to rule of law and respecting human rights?" .
The rights group in a statement today put philosophy of Sharmila regarding the building peace and non-violence with practical approach, which they considered to be a constructive on to realize and with an earnest appeal to the government, people of the state, armed oppositions groups fighting for liberation and others armed organizations.
It also asked what type of non-violence is it the state government led by O Ibobi Singh is looking forward when it ignored Sharmila's eight years of hunger strike.
Continuation of AFSPA and arbitrary killing and forms of torture is rather a contradiction to the understanding of the Prime Minister of the country which stated that this act will be replaced by a more human low ad recommendation of the United Nations bodies.
It could not be called justice when ex-gratia of Rs three lakhs is paid to the deceased victims of recent Ragailong blast and Rs 1,00,000 lakh to the other victims.
Instead, it apparently has a hidden policy to divide people and to divert their importance issues of the state of Manipur, it said.
Suspension of Operation with Kuki militants, ceasefire and peace talk with NSCN(IM) still remain as a questionable one as behind it Kuki armed organizations are carrying out violent acts particularly against the non-Kuki population and also carrying out extortion activities more comfortably.
The statement also alleged that the said activities are carrying out more comfortably with entertaining cooperation from the government forces.
Instances of fraternal killings among the Nagas and ethnic hostility that emerged are the results of "insincere peace policy" extended by the other armed opposition groups of Manipur and north east, it observed.
Restriction to the entry of the foreign tourists from developed country which is beneficial in tourism earning under RAP/PAP regime while and unchecked influx of people from other part of the country, Bangladesh and Nepal in Manipur worsen the economic of the state, the statement said while asking the motive behind it.
"Why government fear people of Manipur mix with people from Europe, China, Japan, America etc".
Government always invites armed oppositions to come our and join the mainstream but on the other hand surenderees who settled their lives having wives and children were picked up and killed by the government forces.
"Is it justice.
What upto the surenderee policy," it went on to ask.
