Imphal, October 29 2009:
State government should enforce Land Reforms Act and avail the benefit of the Act to those landless farmers and people, fromer MP and finance secretary of All India Kishan Sabha, Nurun Hunda today demanded.
Briefing media persons at the office of the CPI(M), Manipur State Committee, the former MP said state government should implement the Land Reform Act so that a landless farmer or person can get 17 acre of land free of cost.
Among the states of the country, three states, Kerala, West Bengal and Tripura have already implemented the Act and landless farmers and people had availed the benefits, Hunda observed.
He also expressed concern over the rising prices of the essential commodities in the state, condemned the Ibobi led government for not taking the matter seriously and not taking up measures to control the price hike.
He also informed the media that All India Kishan Sabha will press the Centre about the inaction of the SPF government under the leadership of the chief minister, O Ibobi with regard the issues in front of the people of the state like the July 23 alleged "fake encounter" incident.
The fear food scarcity likely to face by the people of the state due to agriculture drought will also be put up to the Centre, he assured.
He also criticized that the Congress ruling in the country for 50 years since 60 year of attainment of independent is not taking up any distinct works for the welfare of the poor people.
The ruling Congress neglected the poor farmers has been clearly indicated by the allocation of only 1.6 percent of the total of budget for the year 2009-10 for the agriculture sector.
Due to the shortest in the funds, farmers are not getting fertilizers in plenty apart from remaining unimproved the agricultural infrastructure.
