Imphal, March 31 2009:
Stating that the government of Manipur and the NSCN-IM have failed in meeting their datelines and have been long silent in the murder case of Dr Th Kishan and his two staff, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the murder has called for a 24-hour statewide bandh from the midnight of April 1 to the midnight of April 2 .
Tiken, chairman of the JAC, during a press conference held at Nagamapal, Kangjabi Meisnam Leikai, Imphal West Tuesday stated despite the state government forming an enquiry team consisting of two members there were no any response after the submission of the enquiry report.
Unfortunately, the matter has not been even discussed with the cabinet minister and that both the state government and the NSCN-IM have been silent for long, the chairman added.
The chairman also questioned if the 60 Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) were pressuring the centre government on the matter as it had resolved in the August House assembly or if it was only for kept records in the MLA secretariat.
Asserting further that there have been no words from the government of Manipur despite the case being handed over to the CBI and a month having passed since the incident, the JAC informed it would call for a 24-hour bandh from the midnight of April 1-2.It, however, informed that the bandh would be relaxed for medical and other emergency services including religious ceremony.
It nevertheless appealed all including educational institutions to support the bandh.
Meanwhile, the JAC also organized a mass van rally on Tuesday morning demanding take be action against the murderers of the Dr Kishan and his subordinates.
