Operation passenger service of the Tata Sumo along the Indo-Myanmar section of the NH-39 has been suspended indefinitely with immediate effect from today in protest against the assault of drivers of the Tata Sumo plying on this route and unloading of goods carrying in the vehicle by some unknown persons.
Drivers of the Tata Sumo in service along the Imphal-Moreh section of the highway announced the decision to suspend the service with immediate effect today in a hurriedly called press conference here at MG Avenue.
The decision of the drivers was taken in protest against the assault of drivers of the Tata Sumo parked at Sumo parking near the Moreh Veterinary Office at Moreh by some unknown persons while goods to the vehicles yesterday at about 10.30 am.
In the assault around seven drivers sustained injuries.
They also beat up a boy of the Tata Sumo.
Around 200 Tata Sumo are presently operating passenger service on this route.
In protest against the assault incidents, around 100 vehicles stranded at Moreh backed Imphal yesterday itself, the drivers speaking to reporters said.
The decision to suspend the service was taken to press the state authority to book the culprits behind the assault on the drivers and demanding shifting of the parking place of the Tata Sumo to the earlier place near the Moreh Gate no..2 They also appealed other passenger vehicles to suspend the service like Van, DI truck etc.
