PUBLIC GROUND in Churachandpur district headquarter is all set to witness a peace concert and musical nite to celebrate Christmas and to usher in the New Year 2009 on the evening of December 23 .
The event is being organized under the aegis of 27 Sector of the Assam Rifles with the help and cooperation from various NGOs, Assam Rifles sources said.
Children Home, Saikot and other NGOs are enthusiastically contributing towards making the event a success.
The concert will feature performances by many popular artists of Churachandpur town and even Mizoram state.
Mimin Baite, Benny Khonsai, John Varte, Lucy Kom, Kapnou, the Friendz Band and dance choreographers to name a few.
The concert will begin at 5 pm and likely to last till late night.
Other than the big names the other attraction of the evening will be the eat-stalls, CSD facility by 3 Assam Rifles and Santa Claus giving away Christmas gifts to the children.
The erstwhile underground Kuki and Zomi groups have also actively contributed and participated in the celebrations.
The event is an indicator of the good and peaceful times dawning upon this hill district.
The organizing committee has welcomed all residence of Churachandpur to attend the biggest musical evening ever held in Churachandpur town and make it a great success to work towards establishing peace, harmony and tranquility in our town.
Earlier a Christmas Choir competition was held in front of an audience of over 500 people at Singhat community Hall on held on December 20 .
Altogether 8 enthusiasts teams from various villages under the Singhat sub division of the district took part in the competition with their local dialect as the medium of the choir.
This competition sponsored by 9 Assam Rifles of 27 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) provided a platform for various tribes of the sub division to come together and enjoy the true spirit of Christmas.
At the end Zou Veng won the first prize title along with guitar costing around Rs 2,000 while the St, Joseph School bagged the first runner up with a guitar costing Rs 1500 .
PYDF Club managed to bag the second runner up title with a guitar priced Rs 500.Local community elders, church leaders and citizens whole heartedly thanked the Assam Rifles for taking lead in organizing the function and lauded the change in environment brought about by the security force.
