Khangjrakpam Arjun (14) from Manipur is among 25 children selected for National Child Awards 2009 which will be presented on Bal Divas, 14th November 2009 in New Delhi at a function to be held at Vigyan Bhavan here.
Twenty five children between the age group of 4-15 years have been selected for their exceptional achievements in various fields including academics, art, culture and sports.
Awards include one Gold Medal with cash award of Rs 20, 000 and a citation and 24 Silver Medal with cash award of Rs 10,000 and a citation.
The awards will be presented by Minister of Women and Child Development Krishna Tirath in the presence of various distinguished personalities, including Ms Kapila Vatsyayan, Dr Karan Singh and Mr Motilal Vohra.
Khangjrakpam Arjun from Manipur, at the age of 14 years has become the youngest mountaineer to conquer Mt Banderpunch peak.
Other awardees include Shruthi S from Karnataka for showing exceptional skill in drawing and painting.
She has got many international and national awards for her outstanding work.
Dhruv from Uttar Pradesh, who is a keyboard player who plays Hindustani Classical music and creates original compositions based on the ragas.
Jishnu P Raj from Kerala has shown excellence in the field of art.
He has got many prizes for his outstanding drawings and paintings.
Hiteshwar Singh from Jammu has excelled in roller-skating, roller hockey and Roll Ball.
Akankhya Kabi from Orissa is a multi talented child who has excelled in the Odissi dance and Chess.
Sinku Kumar Verma from Jharkhand has remarkable achievements in Taekwondo while Rinku Gahlawat of Haryana is a Karate champion par excellence.
Oshin Johari of Madhya Pradesh has participated in Destination NASA Knowledge Challenge 2008 and has been selected among the top finalists.
Simran Sandeep Gawli of Maharastra has won the title of World Champion in the Abacus Arithmetical Competition.
Bansi Prathima Muthyala, Andhra Pradesh, has won Gold medals in World Youth Chess Championships.
Poorva Agrawal, Chhattisgarh is a multi talented child with achievements in the fields of academics, swimming, karate, elocution, instrument playing.
