Imphal, August 25 2012:
The decision for re-implementation of ILP which was unanimously taken by all the 60 members of the Assembly on the floor of the House on July 13 last should be forwarded to the Central government by August 31, failing which different forms of intense agitation will be taken up, the Joint Committee on ILP System has warned.
Addressing media persons, Sapamcha Jadumani, Convener of the Committee said that since the decision of the State Assembly was not forwarded to the Central Government in time, the Union Minister of State (Home Affairs) M Ramachandra has contended there is no provision for further implementing ILP in any part of North East.
Jadumani observed that the Union Minister cannot be blamed for his statement, as it was the fault of the State government.
Had the decision of the State Assembly been forwarded to the Central Government in time, nothing as such would have happened.
Even if it has happened, the matter would be regarded as gross violation on the protection of rights of the indigenous people and hence the international organizations could have been informed and agitations started.
Therefore, the decision of the State Assembly should be forwarded to the Central government at the latest by August 31 or else the Committee would be compelled to take further intense agitations.
He also informed that the Committee supports the general strike being called by North East Students' Organisation (NESO) on September 6 in six states of the North East for the protection of the rights of indigenous people.
Its volunteers would also take part in the rally to be held at Guwahati.
Mutum Churamani, Co-convener of the Joint Committee of ILP System, who was also present during press conference, said that just like the Tripuris losing their existence in Tripura, the indigenous people of Manipur are also at the threshold of extinction in different parts of the state like Jiribam, Serou, Kanglatombi and Kangpokpi.
At these places, population of migrants is above 70 percent.
