Imphal, October 09 2011:
The state DGP's order given to all security personnel to check vehicles at Kondong Lairembi, Moreh to ease the passage of all types of vehicles along the Imphal Moreh is being breached by AR personnel.
News reaching here from Moreh said that the AR personnel had complied with the order of the DGP for the first few days by coming down to Kondong Lairembi and frisking vehicles along with the state police, excise and customs personnel.
But was never seen coming down to Kondong Lairembi thereafter.
Instead the AR personnel started frisking vehicles at its post by blocking all vehicles coming on Imphal Moreh road.
The AR personnel in exercising their duties halted 200 to 300 vehicles at one time and delayed the passengers' from reaching their destination timely.
It normally takes 3 hours to check all the vehicles.
As such passengers takes at least 6 hours to reach Moreh to Imphal, which otherwise normally takes 3 hours, complained some of the passengers going from Imphal to Moreh.
According to the order of the DGP, passengers and goods vehicles are to be checked at Kondong Lairembi, in Moreh and at Pallel.
Apart from this all vehicles passing along the Imphal Moreh road will be escorted by personnel of 8MR and Chandel Police personnel.
But surprisingly even the Manipur Police personnel are being held back by the AR personnel in front of all the passengers, which clearly creates an unflattering image of the police personnel.
Meanwhile, Hill Tribal Council (HTC), Moreh and Meitei Council, Moreh (MCM), while expressing gratitude to the State Government for providing security escort and ROP in between Pallel and Moreh for the safety of passengers, have urged the Government to withdraw the escort party and arrange adequate ROP within a suitable time-frame.
In a statement signed jointly by HTC president Jangmang Haokip and MCM president N Pulindro Singh, the two bodies have also appealed to the Tata-Sumo and Van Association plying between Imphal and Moreh to charge normal passenger fare in public interest.
The two bodies have also expressed gratitude to Chairman of ADC Chandel Lhukhosei Zou for taking initiative for holding a day-long workshop on free trade at Hotel Imphal on October 13 .
