Imphal, November 06 2010:
BJP Manipur Pradesh today lambasted the ruling SPF government alleging that the government is remaining silent on the twin issues of the disappearance of UNLF chairman RK Meghen and the 10 year old fast of Sharmila.
Failure to deal effectively to satisfy the people on these two sensitive issues indicate that the SPF government is not taking a serious interest in addressing the problems of the state, state president Santikumar said today.
Even though RK Meghen aka Sanayaima may be leader of an outlawed organisation after all he is a human being and a citizen of the country.
People of the state particularly his family have the right to know where he is.
If he is arrested and is in India it will not be a right step on the part of New Delhi to conceal him for such a long time, Santikumar.
Addressing reporters at the BJP's party office, he demanded that New Delhi should immediately clarify the whereabouts of the rebel leaders.
By delaying in making a clarification is the Centre is just waiting for a public uprising, he warned.
Taking about Sharmila's struggle for repeal of Armed Forces (Special) Power Act-1958 which has completed 10 years, the president criticized the Congress governments both at the Centre and the state government for remaining unmoved for such a long time.
While Sharmila's struggle has completed 10 years, they (Centre and State governments) remain silent doing nothing to save the life of the lady.
Her demand is not for her own's sake but for the oppressed people of the country.
Under AFSPA, security forces and army have been torturing and terrorizing the people of the North East and Jammu and Kashmir for such a long time.
The Jeevan Reddy commission had recommended certain amendments to the provisions but Centre has done nothing to translate it into work, he lamented.
Both the issues of the UNLF chief and Sharmila will be brought up on the floor of the Parliament during the winter session commencing from November 9, he said adding that to extend help in this, a state delegation will be leaving for New Delhi in the next few days.
The delegation will convince party leaders at the Centre on the twin issues, the BJP president added.
The president also stressed that Sonia Gandhi who is to visit to the state should meet with Sharmila and also with the widows whose husbands were victims of 'fake encounters' and hear their laments if she is a true leader of the people.
The party is against the visit of Sonia in the state if she is coming only for the purpose of inauguration and for laying of foundation stones of certain projects.
It has nothing to do with the problems of the people.
After all, who is she to inaugurate the three multi-storey women's market-sheds constructed by government funds, he asked.
She is only the chairperson of UPA and the president of the Congress party.
There is no good reason for her to inaugurate the market-sheds constructed after dismantling the erstwhile Ema (Women) market, he opined.
