Imphal, February 28 2009:
Layingthou Sanamahi Kanba Apunba Lup (LSKAL) in press statement warned the state government that a huge social crisis may erupt among the peacefully co-existing groups of Meetei and Meetei Hindus in the state if the upcoming session of State Assembly on March 7 proposes to place the Sanamahi-Umanglai Faith subordinate to Govindaji Temple Board (GTB).
Such decision will prove a major blow against the peaceful life in the state and may result to a disastrous communal bloodshed.
The statement of LSKAL appealed to the state government to let both the faiths flourish in its own and separate stream under the shade of Indian Secularism.
Meanwhile another statement issued by publicity secretary of Workers' Union Manipur (WUM), K London appealed to all related authorities to reconsider and repeal the proposal of placing the Sanamahi-Umanglai Faith under the subordinate control of Govindaji Temple Board in order to avoid any communal outbreak in the state.
WUM statement said that every faith has its own ideology and exists independently.
A religion should not be forcefully imposing its faith over other religion and it should be strictly abandoned.
A religion having authority over another religion is purely discrimination.
Setting the recent issues on indigenous script and the blazing of the State Library as examples, it would be right for all related authorities to take correct decision.
