Imphal, February 20 2009:
Expressing concern over the killing of Dr Kishan and two of his subordinate staff, the Vision Foundation Manipur opined that the people should teach a lesson to some underground organisations of the state.
In a statement, the Chairman of Vision Foundation Manipur said that hanging the culprits found involved in the killing of Dr Kishan and his staff in public will only satisfy the anger of the public.
Stating that it is the knowledge of the public that this is not the first instance of killing non-hill people, the statement recalled the killing incidents of 7 persons at Yangnoi who went to collect firewood, five workers of Mapi Dam, and another three persons including a doctor of RIMS.
It said that the latest incident might have been a result of the patience shown by the people thus far.
It said that the time has come for the militant groups to know how the people will go on controlling their sentiments in the face of killing innocent citizens.
It said that if the ceasefire between the NSCN (IM) and the Indian Government continues to give hitch to the people of the state then it would be wise to end the ceasefire.
The NSCN (IM) must know that action undertaken by the militant group under the cover of ceasefire is more brutal than jungle law.
It would be better if the State and Central Governments to take step to ensure the non-recurrence of such incident in the future in the interest of the public, the statement suggested.
