PUTTING FURTHER pressure on government of Manipur for the repeal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers Act), AFSPA, 1958, the "Sharmila Kanba Lup" (Save Sharmila Movement) has alleged of a possible third Nupi Lal (Women's War) very soon if the 'black law' was not repealed by the government at the earliest time.
The movement was formed on December 9 with the aim to support Irom Chanu Sharmila who has been on an indefinite hunger strike for the past eight years demanding the repeal of AFSPA, 1958 after 10 civilians were killed by the security forces personnel in the year 2000.
With this aim, the save Sharmila movement has also been observing indefinite relay hunger strike raising the demand for saving the life of Irom Chanu Sharmila and the withdrawal of AFSPA, 1958 from the state.
The relay hunger strike has ben going on since December 10.
While speaking to the media, Mrs.Sorokhaibam Kushum one of the members of the Sharmila Kanba Lup asserted that the women folks of the state were even prepared for a third Nupi Lal (Women's War) should the government failed to repeal the 'black law'.
The women-folks will pressure the government to make sure that the law is repealed and Sharmila is saved, added the member.
Further asserting that many innocent lives have been lost due to the 'black law' AFSPA, Mrs.Kushum stated that the law should be repealed.
She also informed that women from all over the state were in support of Sharmila and added that many were also present for the hunger strike.
Mrs.Kushum also informed that despite submission of reports of Sharmila by various officials to the concerns, unfortunately there was no any positive sign of the reports.
