Imphal, October 11 2009:
All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) has ridiculed the dual role played by the government in its attempt to create a rift between tribal and non-tribal members of AMUCO on the issue pertaining to the arrest of AMUCO members on September 14 last and the subsequent release of tribal member of AMUCO while detaining the others under NSA.
A statement issued today by the publicity department of AMUCO pointed out that the arrested AMUCO members were attempted to use as mediator between the government and Apunba Lup in an effort to curb the ongoing agitation.
It stated that the refusal of the AMUCO members to the offer of the government resulted in the detention of AMUCO members under NSA.
Those who believe in the integrity of Manipur see that AMUCO cannot be wiped out by such divisive policy of the government.
Observing that the government deserves to show respect to social organisations of the state and know the movement of the people in order to bring an end to the ongoing turmoil in state, the AMUCO stated that the show of strength and issuing threat will not bear desirable results.
The crimes of the government are more irksome than the detained social organisations' leaders.
The trouble will continue if not handle with care.
The AMUCO statement further fumed that the issue of land encroachment could have been raised to divert the attention of the ongoing agitation of the people.
It stated that the issue has not been raised with a view to solve the problem as the land is already possessed by Nagaland.
The one-day attention of the government is not going to save the land, but will only deteriorate the situation.
Even if the government solved the matter, the clash of the people over land possession will continue to happen.
The government should solve the matter with social organisations of both Nagaland and Manipur and it should stop the practice of undermining social organisations.
