Biometric attendance registers for teachers on cards

Imphal, December 10 2011:
To ensure regular attendance of teachers in government schools, biometric attendance registers would be introduced very soon, Principal Secretary of Education (S) Dr J Suresh Babu has disclosed, while speaking during an interactive session with students and parents of Rashtriya Indian Military College at the community hall of Sagolband Thingom Leikai here today.
Organized by Parents-Teachers' Association of the college, the interactive session was attended by students, both present and past, as well as their parents.
Speaking as one of the Guests of Honour of the event, Dr Suresh Babu observed that public has come to perceive teachers in government schools as people who do not do much work, who are irregular and who produce worthless students despite a big pay package.
To change this image of government teachers and ensure their regular attendance in school, the government has decided to introduce Biometric attendance registers for the teachers.
This would also help in resolving the problem of substitute teachers, Dr Suresh Babu said.
The Principal Secretary further informed that the government has also taken up steps to impart computer education to students of class VIII to XII so as to improve their quality and enable them to get access to the latest information.
Towards this end, computer education would be included from the upcoming academic session.
MLA of Sagolband A/C Dr Kh Loken and President of Rimcollian Parents' Association Dr Kh Ibohanbi were respectively Chief Guest and President of the function which was also attended by Director of Education (S) W Rajen as Guest of Honour.
