Adivasi Award conferred to Sharmila

Imphal, April 03 2011:
Indian Confederation of Indigenous Tribal People (ICITP) today conferred its "Adivasi Award" to Irom Sharmila, recognizing the sacrifice made by her for mankind.
The award was conferred on the occasion of Akhil Bharatiya Adivasi Mahasabha (All India Indigenous People's Grand Assembly) which was held from March 28 to 30 at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi.
Governor of Meghalaya RS Mooshahary presented the award on the inaugural day of the assembly in which Chief Minister of Delhi, Sheila Dikshit, Union Tribal Development minister Kantilal Bhuria, Ambassador of Bosnia Dr Sead Abdic, Ambassador of Indonesia HE Lt Gen (Retd) Andi M Ghalib, MP Dr Ram Rayal Munda of Rajya Sabha attended as special guests.
Convener of the ICITP Lebra Ram Mooshahary said that ICITP decided to honour Sharmila with this year's Adivasi Award for her immense sacrifice for the human kind.
Sharmila's sacrifice is not for any caste, community or religion but for the whole of the globe.
The award consists of a citation and a tribal shawl.
